How it works

Listen to each stem, trim what you need, and download. They are deleted from our server an hour later.
After the split
Each stem gets its own row. Nothing is fetched until you ask for it, so a six-minute song does not cost you nearly four hundred megabytes up front.
Load fetches that one stem and draws its waveform. Download gives you the whole file as it is, at any time, loaded or not.
Play plays from the start handle with a moving playhead. Play selection loops what is between the two handles, so you can check a cut before you commit to it.
Trim by dragging the handles, or type times as
m:ss.tinto the Start and End fields. With a handle focused, the arrow keys nudge it by a tenth of a second and Shift with an arrow moves a whole second.Download selection builds a 16-bit WAV of just that region in your browser; nothing is uploaded. On the drums row, Transcribe selection sends the region to the transcriber, which takes up to six minutes of audio; the dashed guide on the waveform marks that limit from the start handle.
Stems are deleted from our server an hour after the job finishes. Anything you download or trim stays with you.
From drums to MIDI
This is the one stem splitter that finishes the job: isolate the drums and convert them to MIDI in a single flow. In All stems mode the drums row has a Transcribe these drums button, and, once the stem is loaded, a Transcribe selection button, that send the stem to the CedarGrooveNET drum transcriber, which turns the groove into an editable pattern you can export as a Standard MIDI File. The transcriber takes the whole stem, up to 6 minutes like the splitter, and lets you pick the 16 bars to transcribe on its waveform. Every stem can be auditioned and trimmed in your browser before you download it, so you take exactly the bars you need. Is it free?
Yes. There is no watermark and no limit on how many songs you split beyond a short per-hour cap that keeps the server responsive for everyone. A split asks for your email once per browser; a one-time link signs you in for 30 days.
Which formats can I upload, and what do I get back?
Upload WAV, FLAC, AIFF or MP3, up to six minutes. You get 44.1 kHz, 16-bit stereo WAV files back: vocals and instrumental in Vocals + Instrumental mode, or vocals, drums, bass, other, plus drumless and bassless backing tracks in All stems mode.
How long does it take?
About as long as the song is. A three-minute track takes roughly three and a half minutes; the page shows a countdown while it runs, and a queue position if someone is ahead of you.
Do you keep my file?
Your file and the separated stems are stored on our server while the job runs and for one hour afterwards, then deleted automatically. Transcription on its own still keeps your audio in memory and never writes it to disk.
Which model does it use?
Hybrid Transformer Demucs, one of the strongest freely available source-separation models. Both modes run the same model; Vocals + Instrumental mode simply gives you the vocal stem and everything else mixed back together.
Can I get MIDI from the drums?
Yes. In All stems mode the drums row has a Transcribe these drums button that sends the stem to the CedarGrooveNET drum transcriber and opens it in the grid, ready to edit and export as a Standard MIDI File.
Why WAV and not MP3?
Stems are usually processed further, and a lossy encode at that point costs quality you cannot get back. WAV is larger to download but is the format a DAW wants.
What if my song is longer than six minutes?
It is refused: WAV, AIFF and FLAC files that are too long are refused in your browser before anything is uploaded, and an over-length MP3 is refused by the server. Trim the song first, or split it in two.
Can I trim a stem before downloading it?
Yes. Load the stem, then drag the two handles or type start and end times as m:ss.t. Play selection loops the region so you can check it, and Download selection builds a WAV of just that part in your browser; nothing is uploaded. On the drums row, Transcribe selection sends the region straight to the transcriber.
Can I isolate the drums and convert them to MIDI?
Yes, in one flow. Split the song in All stems mode, trim the drum stem to the bars you want, and press Transcribe selection. The CedarGrooveNET drum transcriber turns it into an editable drum pattern you can export as a Standard MIDI File. No other free stem splitter goes from a song to drum MIDI without a second tool.
